Artist's Description
The lava fields of Iceland provide a landscape that is unique to Iceland. Skaftareldahraun is a lava field on the south east coast that was formed in 1783 from a lava flow from Lakgigar known as the Skafta Fires. This was one of the largest lava flows from a single eruption in the world.
The moss covered lava is beautiful and eerie. It is vital that people don't walk on the moss as it can take a very long time for the moss to recover from the damage caused.
