The Great Ocean Road in Australia is a popular drive for tourists, mainly due to the many interesting rock formations caused by erosion of the limestone cliffs on the Southern Ocean coastline. London Bridge is one of the most visited. Prior to 1990, London Bridge was a natural archway and tunnel, similar in appearance to its namesake. Tourists were able to walk over the bridge to see fantastic views of the ocean and coastline. In 1990, part of the bridge suddenly collapsed leaving the outer arch standing alone in the ocean. Fortunately there were no injuries, however, two sightseers were left stranded until they were rescued by helicopter after a number of hours.
